Family Fringe
Families and solo parent households with above average incomes, owning homes in the suburban fringe.
Family Fringe appreciate familiarity and convenience. These modern families are sensible spenders. They work hard to pay off their homes while putting any spare cash on the mortgage, or away for their children’s education. They are a tech-savvy Type, frequently using digital assistants and consuming digital content to support their busy home lives. Family Fringe are also repeat purchasers, preferring to shop with brands they know and trust.
Family Fringe are primarily made up of families with parents in their 40s and older children, though some are parents to infants, and a smaller segment are child-free couples or single parents. These modern families are middle of the road when it comes to wealth and income, with many households earning between $130,000 and $182,000 each year. This Type often own their own homes with substantial mortgages to service. With considerable demands on their finances, Family Fringe will have modest cash savings ranging from $500 to $2500. They are conservative spenders, saving any leftover money for the mortgage or for their children’s education.
This Type are establishing themselves both within and around capital cities such as Melbourne and Brisbane. They are mostly drawn to mid-to-high density suburban fringe areas including Ferntree Gully and Berwick in Melbourne, and Forest Lake and Bracken Ridge in Brisbane. Most of these up-and-comers own their comfortable, standalone homes. These properties, which often fetch between $600,000 to $1 million, tend to be positioned on good-sized blocks of between 400 m2 and 800 m2.

These busy families often have full houses requiring more than three cars in the driveway. In addition to a ute, extra household vehicles are frequently driven by older children. Family Fringe are loyal customers and tend to stick with the same retail outlets that have served them well over the years. Many in this Type choose not to cook from scratch, despite often spending $250 on weekly groceries. Instead, they often subscribe to weekly meal delivery services to free up their evenings. They are no strangers to technology, often tracking their health data using smart scales and health devices, and owning as many as three personal computers. They spend plenty of time on streaming services, and with multiple family members to cater for, this Type will often have more than four TVs to choose from.
